NOLA HIGGINS
I was born at Havelock in the South Island of New Zealand. My ancestors began farming in the Havelock area in 1885 and continue to do so today. I now live in Picton which is situated at the head of the Queen Charlotte Sound; a waterway traveled by millions enroute to and from the south Island. I experience daily the beauty of the sounds and surrounding countryside.
I've always indulged in a great love of the land where birds, animals and gardening featured strongly in my life. I continue to draw inspiration from the environment around me where ever I am. I describe my paintings as creative and energized.
I have exhibited widely with-in the "top of the south" region resulting in paintings being sold locally, nationally and abroad. In the past I have attended workshops tutored by New Zealand artists Kath Vontunzelman, Nancy Tichborne, Adrienne Pavelka and Geoffrey Heath. I am now interested in allowing my natural style to develop. I like to create artworks with the minimum of drawing giving my creative senses with-in me the freedom to be expressed by using creativity, emotional energy, imagination and the wonderful qualities of watercolour.
